Freeman & Grey can host Christmas parties, team celebrations, networking events, business lunches and dinners, meetings, workshops, training sessions, presentations, planning days, product launches and larger company events.

Bookings can range from reserved areas and seated dining to exclusive use of the upstairs floor or the entire venue.

Freeman & Grey offers options for smaller group gatherings through to large events.

The upstairs floor can accommodate up to 70 guests seated or 150 guests standing when booked exclusively. Full-venue exclusive hire is available for events of up to 300 guests.

Groups can reserve an area within the venue, book tables or dining areas for seated dining, hire the upstairs floor exclusively or take over the full venue.

Indoor, outdoor and balcony spaces are available. The most suitable option will depend on your guest numbers, the level of privacy required and how you would like the event to run.

Yes. The upstairs space can be arranged for meetings, workshops, training sessions, presentations, planning days and team days.

The space has flat-screen televisions for presentations, a covered balcony for breaks and a flexible layout that can be adapted around your group. Catering and refreshments can also be arranged throughout the day.

Freeman & Grey is located at 43 Ponsonby Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1011.

Once we have confirmed your date, booking area and event details, you will receive a booking confirmation email outlining the next steps.

Depending on the type of booking, you may be asked to enter your card details or pay a deposit.

A deposit is required for exclusive hire of the upstairs space or the full venue. This is calculated at 20% of the agreed minimum spend and must be paid to confirm your booking.

For smaller group bookings and seated dining reservations, we will confirm any card or payment requirements when you book.

A minimum spend applies to exclusive-hire bookings. This is the minimum amount your group needs to spend on food and beverages during the event, rather than a separate venue-hire fee.

Your food and drink orders contribute towards the minimum spend.

We will confirm the applicable minimum spend before your booking is finalised.

We will confirm your deadline when you book. For larger functions and exclusive events, this is typically around two weeks before the event.

We will also send you a reminder closer to the date. Confirming your selections and dietary requirements early gives our team time to prepare and helps everything run smoothly on the day.

Freeman & Grey offers pizzas, snacks and sharing platters for larger group bookings and exclusive events.

We will provide a food-order sheet preloaded with a suggested selection suited to your group size. You can adjust the quantities, serving times and dietary notes directly in the sheet.

For seated dining bookings, we will confirm whether your group can order from the à la carte menu or needs to select from the group dining options.

Yes. Please include all dietary requirements and allergies when confirming your food selections so our kitchen team has time to prepare.

While we take dietary requirements seriously, our kitchen handles a range of allergens and cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment.

You can choose an open bar tab, a tab limited to selected beverage categories, a partially subsidised tab, a cash bar or individual drink purchases.

For a bar tab, let us know:

• The total tab amount

• Any restrictions, such as beer and wine only or no cocktails

• The name of the person authorised to increase the tab

We can also arrange a partially subsidised tab. For example, with a $7 subsidy, the tab contributes $7 towards each eligible drink and your guests pay the remaining balance themselves.

Absolutely. Freeman & Grey does not charge a cakeage fee.

You can bring your cake with you on the day or arrange to drop it off earlier.

Yes. The upstairs space has flat-screen televisions that can be connected to using Chromecast for presentations, slideshows and video content.

Speeches and microphone use are available when the upstairs area or full venue has been booked exclusively.

DJs are permitted when the full upstairs floor or full venue has been booked exclusively.

You are welcome to arrange your own DJ, or we can organise one for you for $100 per hour.

If you are bringing your own DJ, they will need to provide their own equipment and an XLR cable to connect to the venue’s sound system.

You can also provide Spotify playlists for the team to play during your event. Music and entertainment options are more limited for non-exclusive bookings, as the space is shared with other guests.

Full decoration freedom is available for exclusive upstairs and full-venue bookings, giving you the opportunity to personalise the space for your event.

For exclusive upstairs bookings, setup can generally begin 30 minutes before the exclusive-hire period. Please speak to us in advance if you need additional setup time.

A few things to keep in mind:

• No confetti or glitter

• No sticky tape, nails or fixings on the walls

• Decorations must not damage the venue or block accessways

• All decorations and packaging must be removed at the end of the event

Balloons and freestanding decorations are welcome, but you will need to arrange a suitable way to display them without attaching anything to the walls.

For non-exclusive group bookings and seated dining reservations, decorations are limited because the surrounding space remains open to other guests. Small table decorations may be possible with prior approval from the team.

The ground floor of Freeman & Grey is wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access to the upstairs level.

Freeman & Grey is a licensed venue, and guests may be asked to present valid identification.

Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian at all times. All minors must leave the premises by 9pm.

Street parking is available along Ponsonby Road and the surrounding streets.
